All eyes are on the apricot trees, at full red bud. Swollen, red mounds are just on the edge of bursting. Like the old song says, “Popcorn popping on the apricot trees,” we hold our breath in anticipation of that first white blossom, the promise of a fruitful harvest in July. Many people spray their trees with pesticide at this time to ward of insects and brown rot. We trust to nature, and hope our trees are spared this year as they have been in the past from unwanted disease or denizens. This is one of the best times to live with an orchard of apricots….though it doesn’t compare to July when the fruit is thick and sweet on the trees! Blenheim apricot trees are a delight no matter what stage, no matter what time of the year. We love our orchard!
