Cucumbers

I never ate cucumbers much as a child. My Mom didn’t like them. But now I really love them. As a crunchy addition to a sandwich, as a salad dressed with a good vinagrette, or thinly sliced and added to a pitcher of icy water (Try it! I swear it’s fabulous) they are wonderful. I got some Seeds of Change organics and planted them today. The first challenge: They like well-drained soil and we have clay. So I dug down about a foot with my trusty trowel and broke up the clumps. I added a litte potting mix we had left over from a tree we planted for Arbor Day. I made three little hills three feet apart and put three seeds in each hill (how geometric) as indicated on the package. I don’t know if it will work, but I’m trying new things this year. So far the salad greens have been a delight, the squash plants have sprouted along with the chard and all is right with the world.
